Champions of Wayne Blog
This day is monumental, not just for this here post, but also because it is officially the last day of winter (and a long, brutal winter at that), and most importantly because it is opening day of March Madness (technically, there were some play-in games Tuesday and Wednesday, but no one really cares).
Those familiar with the NCAA Tournament are aware that the moniker “March Madness” is derived from the fact that there always “Cinderella” teams (think Mercer, Florida Gulf Coast, and Bucknell) that win despite being completely overmatched by likes of Duke, Georgetown, and Kansas.
Similarly, there are Wayne Memorial students who overcome daunting odds to achieve academically. Sure, the buzzer-beaters and mid-court celebrations might be a little more fan-friendly than scan-tron tests and report cards, but there are similarities.
Similar, yet different
While this inaugural blog post has undoubtedly left you breathless, this isn’t the only new thing happening for Champions. The Champions of Wayne 5K Walk/Run is officially a thing now, as registration is now open. The event will be held on Wednesday, May 6th, 6:00pm at Wayne Memorial. You can register online at the championsofwayne.org homepage, or visit Wayne Memorial HS to pick up a registration form.
Tutoring has also begun at the Norwayne Boxing Gym. We have eight WMHS students who are volunteering their time to assist aspiring boxers with their studies. Best of luck to them!
