Champions of Wayne
Director of Academics​



Reports to:  Executive Director
Location:  Wayne Memorial High School (some off-site meetings)
Start Date:  September, 2017

Program Description: Champions of Wayne is leading youth development organization headquartered in Wayne, Michigan. What began as a mentoring/incentive program at Wayne Memorial High School in 2009 has developed into a cornerstone of WMHS culture and is now being replicated in Plymouth-Canton and the small Up North town of Evart. We are also overseeing a burgeoning Kalamazoo Promise-style scholarship program in Evart, and are certain to be frequently nerding out on research data.


Essential Duties/Responsibilities
  • Student Relations
    • Goal-Setting: Ensure all student participants have a challenging, attainable, and measurable goal
    • Contract Distribution/Collection: Agreements for all students each semester with necessary signatures
    • Data Management: Maintain enrollment system (currently hosted on Google Drive)
    • High Achiever Goals: Establish relationships with 4.0 students and mentor them as they set non-academic goals. Must be measurable and precise.
    • Be the “Face of the Program” at WMHS: All building-level issues go through Director of Academics
  • Events
    • Banquet Planning: Manage guest list, student presentations, invitation process, etc.
    • “Been There”: Coordinate event where recent alums interact with rising juniors and seniors
    • 5K Run/Walk: Maintain enrollment, marketing, and overall planning of annual fundraiser
    • ACT/SAT/Essay Help: Provide guidance for rising juniors and seniors on the college admissions process.
  • Best Practices/Staff Relations
    • Ensure clarity on research-based best mentoring practices
    • Provide guidance to current mentors
    • Recognize and prepare new mentors
    • Maintain best practices handbook
    • Provide support and feedback to mentors
    • Mentor recognition
  • Public Relations
    • Maintain Champions of Wayne social media accounts
    • Maintain championsofwayne.org
    • Develop community awareness and support
    • Establish and maintain partnerships with other community and educational organizations
  • Financial
    • Maintain donor spreadsheet
    • Issue thank you and IRS receipts promptly
    • Track donations




Education/Experience
  • Bachelors degree or higher
  • Experience in youth programs preferred


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to develop working relationships with students and staff
  • Technology skills (Google Drive, basic web development, social media, etc.)
    • Ability to learn on the fly
  • Positive, proactive attitude (vital)
  • Amiable
  • Willing to build relationship
  • Independent reader
  • Some evening/weekends will be necessary


Physical Demands
  • Director of Academics will be constantly on the move throughout a public high school with three floors

  •     Competitive salary/benefits based on experience and qualifications
